A few years ago, I jotted down 10 writing rules that I feel are the most important and interesting to share with my clients. I took some time to revisit and update them according to the 10 rules I prioritize today.
An understatement is far better than an overstatement.
Marry your message, not your words.
There’s always more than one way to explain something.
If you're not sure how to use a word, don't use it.
Write for humans, not just the machine.
Only write as much as necessary (remove any "fluff" words).
There’s beauty (and power) in simple language.
Consistency is key in both writing and editing.
It's not always correct to say "I." There are times when you should say "me."
Don't let your personal biases guide your writing; think from the POV of your audience.
